Domaine Bechtold
ドメーヌ・ベヒトルト
Demeter-certified biodynamic purity from Grand Cru Engelberg.
Domaine Bechtold is a family-run estate in Kirchheim, in the limestone hills of the Couronne d'Or west of Strasbourg, whose vineyards extend into neighboring Dahlenheim. Jean-Marie Bechtold has led the domaine since the mid-1990s, joined since 2020 by his son Théo Bechtold, who now manages much of the day-to-day work. The estate farms roughly 12 hectares, anchored by holdings in the Grand Cru Engelberg — a limestone hillside referenced in Strasbourg Cathedral records dating to 890 AD — alongside parcels in Sussenberg, Obere Hund, and Silberberg. Farming has been certified organic since 2007 and biodynamic (Demeter-certified) since 2016. In the cellar, fermentation is mostly done in stainless steel with minimal intervention, preserving fresh acidity and the dry, mineral style typical of the region; wines are matured slowly before release. Alongside classic Alsace varietals and Grand Cru bottlings, the domaine produces skin-contact 'orange' cuvées such as Nef des Folles and a range of Crémant d'Alsace.
