Château Tayac (Côtes de Bourg)
シャトー・タイヤック(コート・ド・ブール)
13th-century estate managed by the Saturny family since 1959, producing structured age-worthy Côtes de Bourg reds from hand-harvested clay-limestone vineyards overlooking the Gironde.
Château Tayac (Côtes de Bourg) is a historic family estate located in the heart of the Côtes de Bourg appellation, overlooking the Gironde estuary near Bourg-sur-Gironde. The property traces its origins to the Gallo-Roman era, was occupied by the Black Prince in the 14th century, and was rebuilt in 1823 by a Bordeaux ship owner inspired by Victor Louis's Grand Théâtre. In 1959, Pierre Saturny purchased the estate and transformed it into one of the appellation's reference producers; today his sons Philippe and Loïc manage the 30-hectare vineyard. The clay-limestone soils at 54 meters elevation, protected by the proximity of the Gironde from spring frosts, yield structured, age-worthy red wines based on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a fresh white Cuvée Océane from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. Vineyards are ploughed, grapes are hand-harvested and sorted on the vine. Not to be confused with Château Tayac in the Margaux appellation.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What grape varieties are used at Château Tayac (Côtes de Bourg)?
- The reds are based on Merlot (approximately 50%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (approximately 45%) with a small portion of Cabernet Franc, all grown on clay-limestone soils. The white Cuvée Océane blends Sauvignon Blanc (60%), Sémillon (30%), and Muscadelle (10%).
- How long can Château Tayac wines be aged?
- The Cuvée Réservée benefits from at least 5–10 years of cellaring, while the Cuvée Prestige — produced only in the best vintages and aged largely in new oak barrels — can evolve beautifully for 10–20 years. The basic Saturny's Côtes de Bourg is enjoyable within 3–5 years.
- Is this the same Château Tayac as in Margaux?
- No. There are two unrelated châteaux with the name Tayac in Bordeaux. This one, Château Tayac (Côtes de Bourg), is managed by the Saturny family and is located near Bourg-sur-Gironde on the right bank. The Château Tayac in Margaux is a separate estate managed by the Portet family on the left bank.
- What food pairs best with Château Tayac Côtes de Bourg?
- The structured reds pair excellently with grilled or roasted beef, duck confit, lamb with herbs, game dishes, and aged cheeses. The Cuvée Océane white is a natural partner for seafood from the Gironde, shellfish, and light poultry dishes.
- What makes the Côtes de Bourg terroir special for Château Tayac?
- The estate sits at 54 meters elevation on south-facing clay-limestone slopes that provide excellent drainage and mineral complexity. Its proximity to the Gironde estuary creates a mild microclimate that protects vines from spring frosts and ensures slow, even ripening — a key to the wines' depth and aging potential.
