Château La Croix Davids
シャトー・ラ・クロワ・ダヴィッド
A Côtes de Bourg estate owned by the same family since 1800, farming 40 hectares of 50-year-old vines on clay-limestone plateau soils with traditional methods.
Château La Croix Davids is a historic family estate located on one of the highest plateaus of Lansac, in the heart of the Côtes de Bourg appellation. The property has been owned by the same family since 1800 and today is managed by Annie Birot-Meneuvrier and her husband Didier Meneuvrier. The estate encompasses 40 hectares of vines with an average age of 50 years, planted on clay-limestone soils that benefit from the microclimate of the Gironde Estuary. The property itself is steeped in history, as it was once a Lazarist monastery from the late Gallo-Roman period and served as an essential stop on the pilgrimage road to Santiago de Compostela. The estate practices traditional viticulture — ploughing instead of chemical herbicides — and produces wines through long maceration vinification. Their range includes the Tradition, Prestige, Burgus, and La Mission des Davids cuvées, all built predominantly on Merlot blended with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What grape varieties are used at Château La Croix Davids?
- The estate grows Merlot as the dominant variety, complemented by Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec. Merlot's richness is perfectly suited to the clay-limestone soils of the Côtes de Bourg plateau.
- How long can the wines be aged?
- The wines have an aging potential of 5 to 10 years, and some cuvées such as the Prestige — aged 18 months in oak barrels — can reward even longer cellaring as the oak integrates and the wine develops greater complexity.
- What food pairs well with these wines?
- The wines pair beautifully with red meats, duck breast, game, porcini mushrooms, and traditional Bordeaux-style entrecôte. The Burgus cuvée is particularly noted for its affinity with game and rich meat dishes.
- What makes the Côtes de Bourg terroir special?
- Côtes de Bourg enjoys roughly 10% more sunlight, lower rainfall, and slightly warmer temperatures than the broader Bordeaux region, thanks to the Gironde Estuary's moderating influence. The clay-limestone soils on the plateau of Lansac provide excellent drainage and add mineral depth to the wines.
- Does the estate use sustainable or organic practices?
- Château La Croix Davids follows traditional viticulture, using ploughing rather than chemical herbicides to maintain the soil. This respect for the land reflects the estate's centuries-old philosophy passed down through the Birot-Meneuvrier family.
