Château Gigault
シャトー・ジゴー
A Stéphane Derenoncourt-guided estate crafting opulent, fruit-forward Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux with the emotional depth of Cuvée Viva — named in memory of the owner's daughter and hailed by Robert Parker as an 'overachieving' Bordeaux.
Château Gigault is an 18th-century estate located in Mazion, 6 km north of Blaye, in the Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Acquired in 1998 by Christophe Reboul Salze — who had already purchased Château Les Grands Maréchaux the year before — the property spans 29 hectares, of which roughly 15 are under vine. The vineyard is planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on clay-limestone soils with silica deposits, a terroir that imparts structure and freshness to the wines. From the outset, Reboul Salze engaged the renowned consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt to guide the estate toward the highest quality, focusing on low yields, meticulous canopy management, and minimal intervention. The flagship wine, Cuvée Viva, was created as a heartfelt tribute to Reboul Salze's daughter, who passed away in December 1998. A third cuvée, Cuvée Nature, reflects the estate's commitment to sustainability: certified HVE3 and in organic conversion since 2020, Château Gigault is steadily moving toward fully certified organic viticulture.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the story behind the name 'Cuvée Viva'?
- Cuvée Viva was named by owner Christophe Reboul Salze in memory of his daughter, who tragically passed away on December 18, 1998 — the same year he acquired the estate. The wine is both a personal tribute and a declaration of the estate's ambition to produce exceptional Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux.
- Who is the consulting winemaker at Château Gigault?
- Since its acquisition in 1998, Château Gigault has worked closely with Stéphane Derenoncourt, one of Bordeaux's most celebrated consultants, whose team helps the estate achieve low yields, precision viticulture, and a polished, modern style.
- What grape varieties are grown at Château Gigault?
- The vineyard is planted with approximately 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on clay-limestone soils with silica deposits in Mazion, giving the wines structure, roundness, and a bright aromatic profile.
- Is Château Gigault organic?
- The estate has been in organic (biological) conversion since 2020 and holds HVE3 (High Environmental Value Level 3) certification. A dedicated natural-method cuvée, Cuvée Nature, already reflects these practices, and the estate continues its transition toward full organic certification.
- What food pairs well with Château Gigault wines?
- Château Gigault's fruit-forward, silky style works beautifully with classic meat dishes — grilled beef, roast lamb, duck confit, venison — as well as rich fish like tuna and umami-rich preparations such as mushroom risotto. Serve slightly cool, around 15–16°C, to best appreciate its freshness.
