1855 Second Growth Sauternes with an elegant, drier style
Château Filhot is a Deuxième Cru Classé (Second Growth) estate in the 1855 Classification, located in the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux. Founded in 1709 by Romain de Filhot, the estate covers 350 hectares with 62 hectares of vineyards planted with 60% Sémillon, 36% Sauvignon Blanc, and 4% Muscadelle. Uniquely among Sauternes estates, Filhot produces a drier, more elegant style of botrytized wine with a lighter body and refreshing acidity. The château remains in the hands of the de Vaucelles family, direct descendants of the founding family, one of the rare Bordeaux estates still owned by the pre-Revolution proprietors.
