Château Canon Moueix

シャトー・カノン・ムエックス

A jewel of Canon-Fronsac shaped by the hand of the Pétrus family — elegant, earthy, and built for long aging.

Château Canon Moueix is a 4-hectare estate located in the southern part of the Canon-Fronsac appellation, Right Bank Bordeaux. Founded and managed by the prestigious Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix — the same family behind Château Pétrus — the property produces approximately 2,000 cases per year from clay-limestone soils. The vineyard is planted predominantly with Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%), vinified with approximately 25% new oak aging. The wines are celebrated for their elegance, structure, earthy complexity, and remarkable aging potential. Jean-Pierre Moueix separated from the property around 2000 to refocus on core estates; the name Canon Moueix was retained by the Moueix family while the vineyards were sold to Jean Halley (of the Carrefour family).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Château Canon Moueix the same as the famous Château Canon in Saint-Émilion?

Who created Château Canon Moueix?
The property was developed by Jean-Pierre Moueix, the legendary Libournais négociant who built an empire including Château Pétrus, La Fleur-Pétrus, and Trotanoy. Around 2000, the Moueix family sold the vineyard to Jean Halley but retained use of the Canon Moueix name.
What grape varieties are planted at Château Canon Moueix?
The 4-hectare vineyard is planted with approximately 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on clay-limestone soils, typical of the Canon-Fronsac terroir.
Does Château Canon Moueix age well?
Yes. With well-integrated tannins, vibrant acidity, and concentrated fruit from clay-limestone soils, the wines have excellent aging potential and can develop beautifully over 10–20 years in good vintages.
