Founded in 1965 by Alfo Bartolommei together with his father Alberto, Caprili is a historic family-run estate in the southwestern sector of Montalcino, near the hamlet of Tavernelle and the village of Sant'Angelo in Colle. Formerly part of the celebrated Pieve Santa Restituta estate, the Bartolommei family arrived in Montalcino as sharecroppers in the early twentieth century before acquiring the Caprili property outright. The estate covers roughly 58-59 hectares, with about 25 hectares under vine, planted predominantly to Sangiovese Grosso for Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, alongside smaller plantings of Vermentino and Moscadello. Caprili bottled its first Brunello in 1978 and released its first Riserva in 1983. Today the winery is led by fourth-generation winemaker Giacomo Bartolommei, who also serves as president of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino. Known for a traditional, non-interventionist style, Caprili wines are prized for their purity, vibrant acidity, and remarkable value relative to their peers, with the 2019 Brunello ranking No. 15 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2024.
