Camigliano is one of the largest and most historic estates in Montalcino, centered on a medieval village and 13th-century castle whose origins trace back to Etruscan settlement along the Ombrone river valley. Acquired by entrepreneur Walter Ghezzi in 1957, the 530-hectare property (about 90 hectares under vine) was transformed from a feudal agricultural holding into one of the appellation's benchmark Brunello di Montalcino producers. Now led by Walter's son Gualtiero Ghezzi together with his wife Laura and the next generation, the estate has farmed its vineyards organically since 2017 and built a striking underground, gravity-cascading cellar that minimizes pumping to preserve fruit quality. Camigliano's Brunello di Montalcino and Paesaggio Inatteso bottlings have repeatedly scored 94-95 points from Wine Spectator, with the 2020 Brunello ranking among the magazine's Top 100 wines of 2025.
